The composition
Low-pressure distillation works under gentler conditions and seeks to preserve the delicate facets of sandalwood, with a cleaner and more refined olfactory texture. It is the counterpart to our high-pressure distillation of the same Indonesian wood.
+ 01 — Origin and botany
Santalum album L., white sandalwood, is a tree of the Santalaceae family native to Java, the Lesser Sunda Islands, the Philippines, and northern Australia. In Indonesia, it grows within its natural range.
The aromatic material is found in the heartwood, the inner wood of the trunk and roots, which becomes enriched with oil as the tree ages.
+ 02 — Extraction and production
The wood is steam-distilled at low pressure, under gentler conditions. The components that define the scent of sandalwood are α- and β-santalol.
+ 03 — Olfactory profile
The pure oil. Creamy, warm, and woody, with a cleaner and more refined texture than the high-pressure version.
+ 04 — Applications in perfumery
- Florals and attars: where a lighter sandalwood is desired.
- Study: in contrast to our high-pressure distillation of the same wood, regarding volatility, creaminess, and persistence.
