Best Dragon blood attar ever made!!

A beautiful morning scent. It has this grown-up, mind-waking, mind-clearing freshness in the first 30 minutes — slightly bitter-woody, with bergamot and petitgrain giving it a crisp, composed lift. I love that.

Overall, it feels like a natural perfumer’s homage to the classical masculine fougère, filtered through Alfonso’s deeper material language: less barbershop cleanliness, more mature masculine freshness, dried herbs, hay, moss, resin, old wood, and warm skin.

Beautifully balanced, and not your typical Rose-Sandalwood attar.

Maderas de Oriente is very much my kind of attar. The opening has a beautiful floral lift from the rose, jasmine, and neroli co-distillation, but it never feels overly floral. What I especially appreciate is that it avoids that dense, classical rose profile so often found in attars. Instead, the florals brighten the composition without taking it over, while oud and oriental spices add depth, warmth, and character.

What makes it stand out even more to me is the drydown. Rather than becoming sandalwood-heavy, it stays more oud-led while keeping the florals alive, which gives it a much more interesting and beautifully balanced evolution.

It also has good radiance for an attar: not loud, but clearly present. Warm, rich, characterful, and very well composed. For me, this is a highly successful take on the style.

Smells honestly really bad at first but when processed correctly it is amazing i tried doing a tincure with i hope it turns great

I was really impressed with the quality of this fragrance and how well it’s blended. It has a strong forest vibe woody and deep, but at the same time it feels bright and kind of uplifting. Super elegant, and honestly pretty hard to pick out individual notes because everything is blended together so smoothly.

On my skin I get a slightly chocolatey touch (maybe from the patchouli), but overall, just wow—great job on this one. I’ll definitely be picking up a few grams.

I had my initial reservations about this perfume. I like fruity fragrances when they are balanced and not overly sweet or gourmand; except if they have a fig note. I'm also not an incense guy. I love smoky perfumes but I abhor those that remind me of churches.

Jokes aside, I decided to trust The Glass Atelier on this one, since he ultimately has had a perfect run with me.

As usual with this house, the simplicity of the notes declared betray the complexity and quality of the fragrance.

At the top, there is a subtle citrus smoke that I've been told that could probably be the frankincense, clean and not overpowering, with the addition of fruity facets brought by figs and cherry. Then, a sweet, resinous, lightly smoky mirrh takes everything to a base in which an in-house ambergris tincture and oud, Hainan, I think, anchor everything down without drowning the top notes. The oud here is clean with subtle sweet background, a compliment to the composition.

I'd reccomended to those interested to check the Instagram page of the author, there is a video there in which he kindly shows his process of creating this perfume, from a distillation of a homemade kiphy incense (that, on its own and without having to burn it, has a really good smell).

Expect attar-like projection and longevity, and an excellent experience. Give it a try, it really gives ancient Egypt vibes.

This attar is excellent and more elegant that you may think.

The stars of the show are a vintage castoreum tincture, warm, sweet, leathery and animalic (not in excess), and a vintage cedarwood oil that the author already exploits with expertise in other works (see Mahjar). Everything else works here to exploit these ingredients and give some counterpoints, with a heart of animalic leathery warmth and cleaner, well rounded woods.

At the beginning, lacking aldehides and other synthetics seen in different interpretations of russian leather, we get a citrusy floral top note from orange blossom and incense, giving the composition light and a clean smoky facet, different from the usual birch tar/cade oil that are often used for that.

There is a spicy, fresh facet that appears after the initial impression, generated by cardamom and, after a bit, a resinous feel rounds the composition and may give grounds to think of this attar as a bridge between the usual Russian leather (but with a cleaner smoke and natural top notes) and Spanish leather (with the subtle citrus, spices and resins toned down and without relying on civet or musks for warmth).

The overall feeling is of a complex, multifaceted and elegant attar that calls for a dress up and will probably be better for events and people with a character strong enough to carry it. It is more potent than I expected but, in a bit of time, it loses strength and becomes more compact, suiting the whole identity of the composition. Great longevity and an excellent addition to this author's lineup.
