The composition
In the Nile delta, jasmine is picked by hand between midnight and dawn, when the flower is at its most fragrant. This heart is a fraction of its absolute refined by molecular distillation: a fruity, transparent jasmine of unusual tenacity that keeps the impression of a freshly opened flower.
Perfumer’s note. As of 9 October 2026, I can say this is, by a wide margin, the best jasmine I have ever smelled. Its heart has an extraordinary fruity facet, but what surprises me most is the delicacy of its floralcy: it keeps the intimate sensation of smelling a fresh flower. And that delicacy doesn’t vanish quickly; it stays for a very long time. — Alfonso
+ 01 — Origin and botany
Jasminum grandiflorum L. belongs to the olive family (Oleaceae). It is a climbing shrub with white flowers, native to an arc running from the Himalayas and southern China to the Horn of Africa and Arabia.
In Egypt it does not grow wild: it is cultivated in the Nile delta, where the village of Shubra Balula is the centre of the industry. Egypt produces nearly half of the world’s jasmine concrete.
The flower is hand-picked at night, from June to October. It should not be confused with Jasminum sambac, Arabian jasmine, which gives an absolute of very different character.
+ 02 — Extraction and production
The flowers are solvent-extracted to obtain a waxy concrete: it takes between 330 and 500 kg of flowers per kilo. Washed in ethanol, the concrete sheds its waxes and becomes the absolute.
This heart goes through one more step. Molecular distillation works at very low pressure and moderate temperature, separating from the absolute a more defined, lighter-coloured fraction. The whole absolute contains heavy, almost odourless compounds such as phytols; the distilled fraction brings the aromatic part to the fore.
+ 03 — Olfactory profile
The neat heart. Floral and fruity from the opening, with a transparent floralcy that recalls the living flower more than the classic absolute. The fruity facet is the most pronounced.
Evolution. Very long-lasting, it keeps the impression of a fresh flower throughout its evolution.
+ 04 — Uses in perfumery
- White florals: a central accord with orange blossom, tuberose and ylang-ylang.
- Luminous, transparent florals: where you want the freshly opened flower rather than the density of the absolute.
- Chypres and floral ambers: a floral heart over labdanum, sandalwood or patchouli.
Contains allergens requiring declaration (benzyl benzoate, linalool, eugenol). Check the batch certificate before formulating.
