Copal Negro from Mexico —

Bursera copallifera

Copal Negro from Mexico is an aromatic resin obtained from Bursera copallifera, also known as copal santo or copal ancho. Its use as incense has been part of Mexican tradition since pre-Hispanic times, especially in ceremonies, offerings, and ritual practices.

Its aroma is deep, resinous, and woody, with facets of earth, herbs, balm, spices, and a slight smoky note. When heated, it becomes warmer and more enveloping, developing nuances of wood, warm resin, and a soft natural sweetness.

It can be used as incense, incorporated into aromatic blends, or processed through tincture and alcoholic extraction for perfumery.

Origin: Mexico
