Musk Root — Sumbul
Musk Root or Sumbul (Ferula sumbul) is an aromatic root from Central Asia historically valued for its unusual musky character, to the point of being used as a vegetable alternative to animal musk.
Its aroma is dry, earthy, herbaceous, and woody, with nuances of root, spices, resin, and soft leather. In the background, a delicate musky and slightly animalic facet appears, giving it a very particular personality.
It can be used in perfumery as a base material and natural fixative, as well as in alcoholic tinctures and incense. When heated, it develops warmer, balsamic, and earthy notes.
