The composition

Geranium’s rose scent is not in its flowers, but in its leaves. Distilled in Madagascar, this oil has a rich, balanced and particularly refined profile, and is one of the classic building blocks for constructing and sustaining rose accords.

＋ 01 — Origin and botany

Perfumery geranium is a Pelargonium of the Geraniaceae family, related to balcony geraniums. Pelargonium graveolens is native to southern Africa: South Africa, Zimbabwe and Mozambique.

Many plants grown under this name are actually hybrids, probably with P. capitatum or P. radens, and the oil is sold as P. graveolens whatever its exact botanical origin. The aromatic glands are in the leaves.

＋ 02 — Extraction and production

The leaves and stems are steam-distilled. The main components of geranium oil are rose-scented alcohols such as citronellol and geraniol, the same ones found in rose oil.

The neat oil. Rich, balanced and refined, floral and rosy in character.

  • Rose accords: reinforces and extends natural rose, with which it shares components.
  • Fougères and aromatics: links lavender with floral notes.
  • Florals: adds body at a more affordable cost than rose.

Simplistic ingredient list that hides an elegant development.
Powdery rooty facets surround a clean oud mix in which Hainan profile shines brighter, woody slightly resinous, sweet and leathery notes are predominant, with orris root as a continuous support. Ambergris can be felt soon and gains strength as time progresses, respectful to the oud.

Longevity is excellent, projection is more subtle but, as attar standards go, it's enough and suited to the elegant character of the composition. Thanks to that, it probably can be worn throughout the whole year, and I can confirm it survives on skin enough to be felt after a dip at the sea. Having said that, it probably suits more daily wear, specially if you work dressed up in a suit. Traditionally masculine leaning but I think it would suit anyone willing.

Underpriced for what it is and its ingredients. I'm glad I bough three grams as I gave one to a friend as a present and I keep two.

The owner of the brand is also really communicative, open and a good inspiration for those that want to share his passion.
