Into the Musk

Into the Musk is a perfume in which Kashmiri musk takes center stage. This musk has naturally chocolatey, creamy, and slightly minty facets, upon which the entire composition is built.

In the top notes, I chose to pair it with black currant absolute, which adds a dark, fruity contrast. It blends with a vintage guaiac, obtained through dry distillation, with an intensely smoky and deep character that defines the fragrance’s personality from the very first moment.

The heart is built around Indolic white flowers, chosen to enhance the animalic and sensual facets of the musk. Surrounding them is a prominent presence of iris. In this composition, I’ve used practically every derivative I have of this raw material—iris butter, resinoid, absolute, and root tincture—achieving a powdery, elegant, and extremely refined texture.

At its heart, the star is a magnificent patchouli from Madagascar, enriched with a small amount of aged patchouli, which adds depth and extraordinary richness. The base is rounded out with a touch of Mysore sandalwood from the 1960s, used sparingly, whose creaminess envelops the entire composition without overshadowing the other ingredients.

As a final note, it incorporates Hainan oud with a very distinctive profile; its earthy and slightly damp facets are reminiscent of patchouli and blend naturally with it, reinforcing the fragrance’s dark, enveloping, and addictive character.

Into the Musk is an interpretation of musk from a natural perspective: dark, sensual, powdery, and deeply enveloping, where each raw material has been chosen to enhance the beauty of musk without ever masking its true character.
