The composition

This lavandin essential oil comes from a 1980s production and has aged naturally for more than four decades. It is an archive piece: the lavandin of another era of perfumery.

+ 01 — Origin and botany

Lavandula × intermedia Emeric ex Loisel. is a natural hybrid between true lavender (L. angustifolia) and spike lavender (L. latifolia), of the Lamiaceae family. It arises spontaneously where both species grow together, between south-eastern France and north-eastern Spain.

As a hybrid, lavandin is more vigorous than its parents and yields much more essence. The aromatic material is in the flowering tops.

+ 02 — Extraction and production

The flowering spikes are steam-distilled. This batch was distilled around the 1980s and has been kept ever since.

+ 03 — Olfactory profile

The oil. A lavandin aged for more than forty years.

+ 04 — Uses in perfumery
  • Fougère: the lavender backbone of the family.
  • Vintage reconstructions: to recreate the character of classic formulas.
  • Study: comparison with our 1980 vintage spike lavender.
