Dragon's Blood – Dry Distillation

Dragon's Blood is one of the most fascinating resins in natural perfumery, yet a tincture or conventional distillation never fully reveals its personality.

This distillate is obtained through dry distillation, a process in which the resin is transformed by the action of heat in the absence of water, capturing the exact moment its pyrolysis begins and releases a new aromatic dimension.

The result is a material of immense intensity, with a smoky, phenolic, balsamic, and deeply dark profile, accompanied by the characteristic dry, spicy, and amber facets typical of Dragon's Blood. Its aroma evokes the smoke of resin falling on glowing embers: mysterious, enveloping, almost hypnotic.

This is not a conventional essential oil, but an extremely concentrated material that should be used like other pyrolysis products, such as Birch Tar or Cade Oil.

Usage Recommendations

Due to its immense aromatic potency, it is recommended to prepare a 10% dilution beforehand to facilitate dosage. In particularly delicate compositions, a 1% dilution may be preferable, always working with very small quantities.

In trace amounts, it adds depth, darkness, and extraordinary richness to leather, incense, wood, resin, amber, oud, and smoky accords, without the need for large quantities.
