The composition

This Sri Lankan vetiver sits between two of the world’s great vetiver references: Java and Haiti. A root oil for those who want to study how the same species changes from one origin to another.

+ 01 — Origin and botany

Vetiver, Chrysopogon zizanioides (L.) Roberty, is a perennial grass of the Poaceae family, native from north-eastern India to Indochina. It was formerly called Vetiveria zizanioides. In Sri Lanka it is an introduced crop.

The aromatic part is its long, dense roots.

+ 02 — Extraction and production

The dried roots are distilled for many hours, because their components are heavy and come over slowly.

A study of vetivers from nine origins found a very homogeneous composition in their main components. The differences between origins lie in the nuances.

+ 03 — Olfactory profile

The neat oil. A vetiver between the Java and Haiti profiles.

+ 04 — Uses in perfumery
  • Woody and root accords: structure, dryness and tenacity.
  • Chypre, leather and incense: classic bases where vetiver holds the composition together.
  • Studying origins: part of our vetiver Discovery Set.
