The composition

An onycha tincture made from Red Sea sea-snail operculum, macerated at 30% in perfumery-grade ethyl alcohol. It bottles one of the oldest incense materials, ready to formulate.

+ 01 — Origin

The operculum is the small, nail-shaped plate certain sea snails use to close the opening of their shell. The most widely accepted identification of the onycha named in Exodus as part of the sacred incense is the operculum of snails such as Strombus or Murex, from the Red Sea.

+ 02 — Production

The operculum is macerated at 30% in perfumery-grade ethyl alcohol.

+ 03 — Olfactory profile

The tincture. Mineral, marine, animalic and dry, with salty and leathery nuances.

+ 04 — Uses in perfumery
  • Animalic and marine accords: depth, salinity and leather.
  • Incense and resins: with frankincense, myrrh and labdanum, in the spirit of ancient incense.
