The composition

Aceh, at the northern tip of Sumatra, is patchouli’s homeland. This oil from the 2026 harvest opens with a minty freshness and moves into bitter cocoa, damp earth and dry leaves: a young, lively and complex patchouli.

+ 01 — Origin and botany

Pogostemon cablin (Blanco) Benth. is a perennial subshrub of the Lamiaceae family, the mint and lavender family. It is native to Sri Lanka, Sumatra, Java, Malaysia, the Philippines and New Guinea; in Aceh it grows within its natural range.

The aromatic part is the leaves.

+ 02 — Extraction and production

The leaves are dried before being steam-distilled. The oil’s characteristic component is patchouli alcohol; the Indonesian standard requires a minimum of 31%.

Patchouli improves with age, so the harvest year is part of its identity.

+ 03 — Olfactory profile

The neat oil. Fresh mint, balsamic notes, bitter cocoa, damp earth, dry leaves and soft woods.

+ 04 — Uses in perfumery
  • Chypre: patchouli is one of the pillars of its base.
  • Orientals and ambers: with labdanum, vanilla, rose and oud.
  • Studying origins: part of our Nepal, Aceh and Madagascar patchouli trio.
