The composition

Indian patchouli offers another expression of this raw material. Alongside our oils from Aceh, Madagascar and Nepal, it completes The Glass Atelier's exploration of patchouli origins.

+ 01 — Origin and botany

Pogostemon cablin (Blanco) Benth. is a perennial subshrub in the Lamiaceae family, which also includes mint and lavender. It is native to Sri Lanka, Sumatra, Java, Malaysia, the Philippines and New Guinea. In India, it is cultivated.

The aromatic part is the leaves.

+ 02 — Extraction and production

The leaves are dried before steam distillation. The oil's characteristic constituent is patchouli alcohol.

+ 03 — Olfactory profile

The neat oil. A patchouli with a chocolate-like character compared with those from Indonesia and Madagascar.

+ 04 — Uses in perfumery
  • Chypre and oriental compositions: a classic base note.
  • Gourmand accords: its chocolate facet pairs with cocoa and vanilla.
  • Exploring origins: compare with Aceh, Madagascar and Nepal.
+ Bibliography

Supplied in the selected packaging: an attar bottle for 3, 6 and 12 ml; Miron glass for 30 ml; and an aluminium bottle for 50 and 100 grams.
